Adamawa State House of Assembly passes Social Protection Bill to support vulnerable groups including widows, the aged, unemployed and physically challenged

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a Social Protection Bill aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable and disadvantaged residents across the state.

The legislation is designed to provide coordinated and sustainable interventions for groups including the physically challenged, the unemployed, the elderly, widows, and the sick.

The bill scaled through its third reading following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Kate Mamuno, who also sponsored the bill. The motion was seconded by the Minority Leader, Sulaiman Umar Alkali.

After deliberation, the bill was read for the third time and subsequently passed. The Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, who presided over the session, directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a clean copy for transmission to the governor for assent.

The Social Protection Bill was developed with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Union, as implemented by GIZ Nigeria.

The new law is expected to strengthen social safety nets and improve living standards for vulnerable populations in Adamawa State.
