Rio Ferdinand says Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze sacrifices parts of his flair under Arteta, despite scoring a brace in the 4-1 London derby win over Tottenham

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Arsenal midfielder Eberechi Eze is sacrificing elements of his natural game under manager Mikel Arteta.

Ferdinand made the observation following Eze’s two-goal performance in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Tottenham in the latest Premier League London derby.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents, he said Eze seems to have lost some of the individual flair that defined his time at Crystal Palace.

“In discussions with friends, we’ve been wondering, ‘Where is the best version of Eze?’ He should focus on playing one-twos and drawing defenders out, as he did with his second goal,” Ferdinand said.

He added, “Eze needs to play one-twos, draw opponents out of their positions, but I think he is playing more for the team than for himself. If you are going to win championships, sometimes you have to sacrifice parts of your game. We are yet to see the Crystal Palace Eze in an Arsenal shirt.”

Ferdinand’s comments highlight the balance between individual brilliance and tactical discipline in Arteta’s system, and the adjustments players like Eze make to contribute to team success.
