Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai remains in ICPC custody as bail application goes unanswered, says media aide

Former Nasir El-Rufai remains in detention as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has yet to respond to his bail application, according to his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye.

El-Rufai was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026, before being transferred to ICPC custody two days later.

Adekeye stated that, despite filing a formal bail request after interrogation, El-Rufai’s legal team has received no feedback.

No remand order has been presented to justify his continued detention, even as the constitutional 48-hour limit for holding a suspect without charge has passed.

In a related development, El-Rufai is challenging the legality of a search carried out at his Abuja residence by ICPC officials, describing it as a violation of his rights. He is asking the court to nullify the warrant used for the search.
