Javier Tebas slams Premier League over delay in ruling on Manchester City’s 115 charges, questioning governance standards

The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, has criticised the Premier League for failing to deliver a verdict on the 115 charges brought against Manchester City more than three years after the case was opened.

Javier Tebas said the prolonged delay has raised concerns about how the Premier League manages cases involving its most powerful clubs.

The Premier League charged Manchester City in February 2023 with multiple alleged breaches of its financial regulations.

Since then, other clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Everton, have received points deductions for violating financial rules.

Javier Tebas suggested the contrast in handling cases sends the wrong signal across European football.

“Other clubs are watching what’s happening and seeing how things are being dealt with,” Javier Tebas said.

“It’s okay if you get fined or lose points for not following the rules. But City seem to be getting away with it, which weakens the Premier League as an organisation.”

The outspoken Spanish administrator has previously called for stricter financial oversight in European competitions.

His latest remarks add fresh pressure on the Premier League as it continues its high stakes investigation into Manchester City.

Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and said they welcome the opportunity to defend their position through an independent process.
