Dorofi made the appeal during the ninth anniversary celebration of Daystar Covenant Assembly, where he called on Christian leaders to practise the unity they preach and embrace mutual respect and cooperation.

He expressed concern that some pastors allegedly discredit fellow ministers to attract members, gain recognition and advance their personal interests.

“What is destroying development in Pentecostal churches is greed, selfishness, pull-down syndrome and jealousy among pastors,” he said.

The cleric also criticised what he described as tribalism and nepotism within parts of the Pentecostal community, warning that unfounded allegations against fellow ministers could damage relationships and hinder the wider development of Christianity.

“We pretend to talk about unity, we preach unity, but yet unity is far from us,” Dorofi lamented.

He urged pastors to follow biblical teachings and the example of Jesus Christ by demonstrating humility, love, tolerance and mutual respect. He added that the growth of one ministry should not be viewed as a threat to another.

Guest speaker Archbishop Charles Yohanna also called on pastors and Christians to reject unhealthy competition and work together for the benefit of the Christian community.

Yohanna warned that rivalry driven by envy and the desire to outshine others could fuel hatred and division among believers.

“In Christendom, we should not compete, but we should try as much as possible to complement one another, because engaging in unhealthy competition will breed hatred and envy among pastors,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Evangelist Philip Mulip encouraged Christians to shun idleness and pursue legitimate businesses and other productive activities to improve their livelihoods and support economic development.

Mulip further urged Christians to contribute to government efforts to strengthen the economies of Taraba State and Nigeria, cautioning against actions that could frustrate development initiatives.

He stressed that believers had a responsibility to support their communities through productive work and responsible citizenship.
