The initiatives are part of the church’s efforts to promote financial independence, improve livelihoods and expand access to education among members and residents of its host community.

The church disclosed the interventions in a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The fashion design programme provided free practical training to equip women with the skills needed to establish businesses, generate income and become economically self-reliant.

The grinding machines were distributed to widows to strengthen their businesses and help them meet the financial needs of their households, while the scholarships were awarded to indigent pupils of Mountain Top Nursery and Primary School in Akure to ease the cost of education.

Speaking on the initiatives, the Mega Regional Overseer of MFM Ondo Mega Region 1, Pastor Ademola Adeniyi, said the programmes reflected the vision of the church’s General Overseer, Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, to improve lives and promote financial independence.

Adeniyi explained that the church’s mission extended beyond preaching and spiritual activities to include practical interventions that address the economic challenges facing individuals and families.

“Our father-in-the-Lord directed that all MFM churches must impact positively on the lives of members and host communities through explosive evangelism, not only by preaching and deliverance but also empowering them,” he said.

He added that the skills and equipment provided would help beneficiaries establish sources of income and improve their ability to provide for their families.

“Through these skills, we can ensure they have a source of livelihood that can put food on their tables and make them better than the way they came,” Adeniyi said.

He also described Dr Olukoya and his wife, Dr Folashade Olukoya, as philanthropists committed to transforming lives through humanitarian and empowerment programmes.

Adeniyi disclosed that the MFM Ondo Mega Region 1 Resource Centre, located on the church premises at Adesuper, had trained more than 100 women, teenagers and youths in fashion design free of charge.

The centre’s programme is intended to equip participants with practical skills they can use to establish businesses and earn a living.

The latest distribution of sewing machines, he said, would help selected beneficiaries put their training into practice and turn their skills into sustainable sources of income.

He urged the recipients to make productive use of the equipment and encouraged church members and the general public to patronise their businesses.

The initiative seeks to reduce dependence on external assistance by giving beneficiaries the skills and tools needed to support themselves.

The church also awarded scholarships to 20 indigent pupils of Mountain Top Nursery and Primary School, Akure.

Adeniyi commended the school’s board members for supporting the initiative, describing the scholarship scheme as an investment in the children’s future.

The financial assistance is expected to ease some of the pressure associated with school expenses and help the pupils continue their education.

He said MFM’s social interventions were designed to address the physical, emotional and economic needs of individuals and families, alongside the church’s spiritual activities.

According to him, the church also provides cash assistance, free skills acquisition programmes for widows, women and youths, as well as sporting activities aimed at engaging young people.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, saying the equipment and scholarships would help improve their circumstances.

The women who received sewing machines said the equipment would enable them to serve more customers, expand their tailoring businesses and earn additional income.

They also noted that the free training had equipped them with practical knowledge, while the machines would help them apply those skills in their businesses.

Widows who received grinding machines described the assistance as timely, saying it would strengthen their businesses and help them meet household expenses.

Parents and beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme also welcomed the initiative, noting that the support would reduce education-related financial pressures.

The call was made on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at an event in Bauchi to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.

The event was organised under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Project in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria, Azurfa Women and Youth Development Initiative, and Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative.

Speaking at the event, Mustapha Idris, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative, said the annual observance aimed to raise awareness of girls’ rights and promote their well-being.

He said the programme was designed to encourage girls to explore a wider range of professions and address gender disparities in the workplace.

Idris urged students to use their school holidays to learn practical skills, including shoemaking and soap production, which could help them earn an income and improve their economic prospects.

“Girls should not feel ashamed of learning a trade or engaging in legitimate businesses. These skills can provide them with sources of income, promote financial independence and reduce their reliance on others,” he said.

Monica Tanko, Executive Director of Azurfa Women and Youth Development Initiative, urged the girls to remain committed to their education and avoid leaving school before completing their studies.

She also encouraged them to develop practical skills alongside their formal education, saying the combination could help prepare them for future challenges and employment opportunities.

Tanko stressed the importance of self-reliance while encouraging the students to maintain their personal dignity as they pursued their ambitions.

Timothy Ibrahim, an engineer with more than 20 years of professional experience, encouraged the students to consider engineering and other professions in which women have traditionally been underrepresented.

He urged them not to allow gender stereotypes to discourage them from pursuing their interests, adding that girls could excel when they had access to opportunities, encouragement and support.

His message reinforced the event’s call for girls to look beyond occupations traditionally associated with women and explore careers across technical and professional fields.

The event was attended by female students from several schools in Bauchi metropolis, including Rafin Zurfi, Bakaro, Unguwar Doya, Gudun Sayawa and the Federal Government Girls’ College.
