Newgate University Minna receives NUC approval to start postgraduate programmes, including PGD, master’s, professional master’s, and PhD courses

Newgate University Minna has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence postgraduate programmes, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s drive for research excellence and innovation-driven scholarship.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sadiq Yusuf, disclosed the development during a press briefing at the university, adding that preparations have been concluded for the admission of the first cohort of postgraduate students.

“The NUC approval covers a broad spectrum of postgraduate programmes, including Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD), master’s degrees, professional master’s programmes, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees across multiple academic disciplines,” Professor Yusuf stated.

He emphasised that the university remains committed to upholding the highest standards of academic excellence in delivering the newly approved programmes.

“Our Postgraduate School has been strategically structured to promote research excellence, professional relevance, and innovation-driven academic leadership,” he said.

The introduction of the postgraduate programmes is expected to enhance Newgate University’s research capacity and produce highly skilled professionals and scholars capable of contributing to national growth through knowledge creation and innovation.

The PGD programmes include Management, Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, and Public Health. Master’s degree programmes cover Computing, Accounting, Public Health, and International Relations, while PhD degrees will be offered in Computer Science, Public Health, Accounting, Management Studies, and International Relations.

Additionally, the university will offer professional master’s programmes in Public Health, Business Administration, Accounting and Finance, Strategic Studies, Development Studies, and International Affairs and Diplomacy.

Professor Yusuf described the approval as a transformative step for the university, underlining its commitment to fostering research-led education and producing graduates equipped for leadership roles in academia, industry, and public service.
