Three bandits and two vigilantes were killed in a gun duel in Bargaja village, Isa LGA, Sokoto State, during an early morning attack

A violent confrontation in Sokoto State claimed the lives of three bandits and two vigilantes in Isa Local Government Area, specifically in Bargaja village, early Sunday morning.

According to sources, the attackers entered the village around 1:30 a.m., using peripheral routes. Some hid in trees near the cemetery, while others snuck into a house on the outskirts, engaging vigilantes on duty.

One vigilante was killed early in the encounter, but the others returned fire, resulting in the deaths of three bandits. Later, the bandits pursued another vigilante hiding in a house, ultimately killing him. The two vigilantes who died were identified as Umar Ibrahim and Abubakar Abdullahi.

Eyewitnesses said the bandits used a donkey to transport their fallen members and abandoned motorcycles to evade detection.

The incident caused panic among residents, prompting intervention by community leaders, including the village head and local security commander, to restore calm.

DSP Ahmad Rufai confirmed that the police are aware of the attack and the casualties recorded.

The attack underscores ongoing security challenges in rural communities of Sokoto State and the risks faced by vigilantes protecting their villages.
