Ignatius Ajuru University (IAUE) receives ₦990M from NELFUND to cover tuition fees for 6,662 students in the 2025/2026 academic session

The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) following the disbursement of ₦990,400,600 to cover tuition fees for 6,662 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The university confirmed that the payment represents the first batch under the federal government’s student loan programme, aimed at reducing financial barriers to higher education.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Okechuku Onuchuku highlighted that the intervention has eased the burden on students and their families, allowing beneficiaries to continue their studies without disruption.

The university also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for advancing the student loan initiative, and NELFUND Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr for facilitating the release of funds.

“This timely intervention has brought immense relief to our students and their families, significantly reducing the financial burden associated with pursuing higher education,” Professor Onuchuku said in a statement.

As part of its commitment to transparency, IAUE published confirmation of the payment in a newspaper and reaffirmed its readiness to maintain collaboration with NELFUND to ensure broader access to higher education in Nigeria.

The university noted that the support is expected to instil renewed hope, motivation, and confidence in students to pursue their academic ambitions.
