Coronation Securities lending solution launches to help investors access liquidity without selling equity holdings in Nigeria’s capital market

Coronation Securities Limited, a subsidiary of Coronation Group, in partnership with Coronation Merchant Bank, on Monday, 2026, announced the launch of a structured Securities-Backed Lending solution aimed at providing high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, as well as corporates, with access to liquidity without requiring the liquidation of investment portfolios.

The Coronation Securities lending solution allows eligible investors to borrow against qualifying equity holdings maintained with Coronation Securities, while retaining full ownership and continued exposure to market performance.

The arrangement combines the credit structuring and risk management expertise of Coronation Merchant Bank with the brokerage, custody, and collateral management capabilities of Coronation Securities Limited, creating what the group described as a disciplined, private banking-style liquidity framework for sophisticated investors.

According to the company, the product is designed to address a growing need within Nigeria’s capital market, where increasing investor participation has created demand for more flexible financing options that do not disrupt long-term investment strategies.

Speaking on the development, Team Lead for Products and Trading at Coronation Securities, Azeezat Awonuga, said the initiative was developed in response to evolving market realities and the need for more efficient capital management tools.

She explained that the framework allows investors to remain fully invested while accessing structured credit, describing it as a system that reflects global private banking standards where portfolio-backed lending is commonly used to optimise liquidity and investment continuity.

Awonuga added that the solution is expected to deepen participation in Nigeria’s capital markets by offering investors greater flexibility in managing wealth without compromising portfolio growth potential.
