Bassey picked up the injury during Fulham’s 3–1 Premier League win over Burnley last weekend, ruling him out of the national team’s preparations just days before their first match.

The Super Eagles medical and technical crew are not expected to call up a replacement for the defender, as head coach Eric Chelle works with the current squad already in camp.

Despite Bassey’s absence, the team received a boost with the arrival of captain Wilfred Ndidi at the squad’s base in Antalya, Turkey.

Ndidi’s arrival increased the number of players in camp to 22, with the midfielder expected to take part in the team’s first training session later in the day.
