Ogun workers relief allowance approved as Governor Abiodun grants weekly day off and ₦10,000 transport support for civil servants

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants as part of measures to ease economic pressure.

The initiative, announced on Thursday by Head of Service Kehinde Onasanya, will run for three months starting from April 2026.

Onasanya said the intervention was designed to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices and increased transportation costs on the state workforce.

The governor’s directive grants eligible workers one day off duty each week, alongside the temporary transport allowance.

The relief allowance is expected to provide timely support while encouraging improved productivity across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Onasanya clarified that essential workers, including medical personnel, teachers, judicial staff, security officers, and heads of departments, would not participate in the weekly day-off schedule.

However, the affected categories will still benefit from the transport allowance.

He added that accounting officers in each agency would determine suitable days off for eligible staff to ensure uninterrupted public service delivery.

The Head of Service described the policy as a proactive and impactful response to current economic realities, urging workers to reciprocate the gesture with renewed commitment.
