Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has set a new benchmark in European football after surpassing Lionel Messi’s record for the most assists in UEFA Champions League knockout-stage history, despite his side’s elimination at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Vinicius Junior’s UCL assists achievement milestone was confirmed following Real Madrid’s 6-4 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, a result that ended the Spanish club’s hopes of progressing further in the competition.
