Obasa support Hamzat governorship bid as Lagos Speaker vows to mobilise political structure ahead of 2027 election

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, on Thursday hosted Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat at his official residence in GRA, Ikeja, pledging strong political backing for Hamzat’s anticipated governorship bid ahead of the 2027 election.

Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa said he would deploy his extensive political structure to secure victory for Obafemi Hamzat, describing the Deputy Governor as a capable and loyal figure within the All Progressives Congress.

The meeting forms part of Obafemi Hamzat’s ongoing consultations with party leaders and stakeholders as momentum builds within the ruling party over succession planning in Lagos State.

“I just returned from Abuja, and the conversation remains the same, Obafemi Hamzat is the next Governor of Lagos State,” Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa said.

Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa added that Hamzat’s record in infrastructure development and party loyalty made him a compelling choice for continuity in governance.

Obafemi Hamzat, widely regarded as a presumptive candidate, expressed appreciation for the endorsement and highlighted the Speaker’s legislative experience and political reach as a decisive advantage in the build-up to the election.

Obafemi Hamzat said his consultations were centred on inclusive governance rather than personal ambition, stressing that Lagos required sustained collaboration to maintain growth and innovation.

“Lagos is a collective project. My consultations are about ensuring continuity, innovation, and inclusive development for our people,” Obafemi Hamzat said.

The engagement also featured a brief but notable exchange with party loyalists present at the residence, reflecting growing alignment among influential figures within the APC in Lagos.
