Enugu child trafficking case uncovered as NAPTIP rescues two minors and launches probe into suspected orphanage-linked network

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has uncovered a shocking Enugu child trafficking case, rescuing two minors allegedly sold under the guise of orphanage care arrangements.

The agency disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that operatives launched a targeted rescue operation following credible intelligence, leading to the recovery of the children in Enugu State.

According to NAPTIP, a 51-year-old suspect identified as Thaddeus is accused of selling the minors to his uncle, Elies, in what officials described as a deeply troubling exploitation of vulnerable children.

The agency said the victims, whose identities are being protected, are currently in safe custody and receiving care in line with established victim protection protocols.

Authorities warned that the Enugu child trafficking case highlights growing concerns about the misuse of orphanage and care systems as fronts for illegal child trade.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network and identify other individuals involved.

NAPTIP reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all those found culpable are brought to justice, while urging members of the public to report suspicious activities linked to trafficking.

The case comes amid intensified nationwide enforcement efforts by the agency.

In a related operation in April, NAPTIP intercepted dozens of Nigerians at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Immigration Service, preventing a suspected trafficking attempt.

Officials said the rescued individuals in that operation were placed in protective custody while investigations continue into the syndicate behind the movement.
