Brazil forward Luiz Henrique says World Cup pressure should be turned into motivation as Selecao prepare for the 2026 tournament under Carlo Ancelotti

Brazil forward Luiz Henrique has urged his national team to convert the pressure of expectation into motivation as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 25-year-old winger, who plays for Russian club Zenit, said the long wait since Brazil’s last World Cup triumph in 2002 has created intense pressure around the squad, but insisted it can be used positively.

Brazil, the most successful nation in World Cup history, are aiming to win a record sixth title when the tournament kicks off in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Henrique made the remarks in an interview with AFP, where he stressed the importance of mental strength within the squad.

“Pressure is always a good thing. In football—and especially with the national team—pressure is ever-present. We have to channel that pressure into motivation,” he said.

The forward acknowledged the emotional weight of injuries affecting key teammates, including Éder Militão, Endrick, and Rodrygo, describing the situation as difficult for the squad.

He also expressed his ambition to feature prominently under new head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge with the mandate of restoring Brazil to global dominance.

Henrique said working under Ancelotti has been a valuable experience, praising his calm approach and ability to help players perform at their best.

“He helps a footballer evolve and instills a sense of calm in the players, allowing us to showcase our best football,” he added.

The Brazilian winger also revealed his desire to play alongside Neymar, who has been absent from the national team since 2023 due to injury but remains in contention for selection.

Ancelotti is expected to announce his final World Cup squad on May 18, with competition for places intensifying as Brazil fine-tunes preparations for the tournament.

Henrique said his focus remains on earning a place in the squad and contributing to Brazil’s quest for global success.

“I want to play, to be in the starting eleven, and if selected, I will give my absolute best,” he said.
