Nigerian Army troops carried out a Katsina terrorist ambush, killing three suspects and recovering weapons during the operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised three suspected terrorists during an ambush operation in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area.

The operation was conducted by troops of the 17 Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Base FUDMA along the Turare-Kitibawa-Kuka-Mai Damusa Road on Friday night.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade Katsina, Abayomi Adisa.

According to the statement, the troops had taken up strategic blocking positions as part of ongoing offensive operations against terrorists and criminal groups operating in the area.

The Army said the Katsina terrorist ambush occurred at about 9:40pm on May 9, 2026, when armed suspects fleeing military operations in the Matazu general area ran into the troops’ position.

The fierce encounter led to the killing of three suspected terrorists, while security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms and N3,500 cash.

The statement added that troops had sustained pressure on criminal elements as part of efforts to restore peace and strengthen security across the state.

The Army also appealed to residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Katsina and neighbouring communities.

Katsina State has witnessed repeated security operations targeting armed groups linked to banditry and terrorist activities in several local government areas.
