The aspirants said on Wednesday that the zoning principle remains vital to preserving political stability, fairness and unity within the district, insisting that all stakeholders must respect the long-standing arrangement.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued after a strategic consultative meeting with the Etsu Patigi and Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Umar Bologi II.

The communiqué was jointly signed by Hon. Mohammed Musa, Alhaji Adamu Manko, Mahmud Mohammed, Dr. Babajiya Kolo and Comrade Mohammed Abubakar.

The group particularly appealed to the senator representing Kwara North, Senator Sadiq Umar, to honour the succession formula that has historically guided political balance across the district.

“We unequivocally state that the existing zoning arrangement within Kwara North must be respected to ensure continued peace, equity, and political stability in our district. Zoning remains the bedrock of our collective progress,” the communiqué stated.

The aspirants also stressed that unity among contenders from Patigi would remain a powerful priority regardless of political competition.

According to the statement, all aspirants agreed to support whoever eventually emerges as the APC senatorial candidate from the area.

“We remain brothers first; no political contest will be allowed to undermine the long-standing bonds we share,” the group added.

The aspirants further noted that the Kwara APC zoning agreement contributed significantly to Senator Umar’s own emergence during the previous election cycle.

They recalled that Patigi stakeholders backed the APC during the 2023 general elections despite having aspirants from the local government contesting for the same ticket.

“We respectfully urge Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar to respect the established zoning rotation. It is important to note that this arrangement facilitated his emergence as Senator representing Kwara North,” the statement read.

The group also called on the leadership of the APC in Kwara State, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to intervene in preserving the zoning arrangement and sustaining peace within the district.
