Tobi Amusan wins her third African title in Ghana and says she remains hungry for more success ahead of the Diamond League in China

World record holder Tobi Amusan has expressed renewed determination to achieve more success after winning her third continental title at the ongoing CAA Senior African Athletics Championships in Accra.

Tobi Amusan African Championships victory came in the women’s 100m hurdles, where she stormed to gold ahead of Zimbabwe’s Ashley Miller, while Nigeria’s Adaobi Tabugbo secured bronze to complete a strong outing for the country.

The win marks another milestone in Amusan’s dominant continental career, following earlier titles won in 2018 and 2022, further cementing her status as one of Africa’s most accomplished hurdlers.

The 29-year-old athlete did not compete in the 2024 edition in Cameroon but made a strong return in Ghana, opening her 2026 season with a commanding performance.

Amusan is now shifting focus to the Diamond League opener in Shanghai/Keqiao, China, where she will compete against some of the world’s top sprint hurdlers in a highly competitive field.

Her upcoming race will feature elite athletes including reigning world champion Ditaji Kambundji, Olympic champion Masai Russell, and former world champion Danielle Williams, setting up a high-profile showdown early in the season.

Amusan remains one of the fastest women in history over the 100m hurdles, holding the world record of 12.12 seconds, and continues to be a major contender on the global athletics stage.

After her victory in Ghana, she took to social media to express gratitude to her support team and fans, while reaffirming her hunger for more success.

“Still hungry for more. The mission continues,” she wrote, signalling her intent to build on her strong start to the season.

The Diamond League season officially begins with the Shanghai/Keqiao meeting and concludes in Brussels in September, where the world’s best athletes will compete for the final titles of the year.
