Sarah Idoko Death Probe intensifies as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a Federal University Lokoja student

The Kogi State Police Command has launched a Sarah Idoko Death Probe after Sarah Idoko, a final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja, was found dead along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway, with authorities working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

Sarah Idoko was discovered on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja after she was allegedly dumped by unidentified assailants.

Witnesses told investigators that a vehicle stopped briefly near the location at about 8pm before speeding away. Passers-by later found the body by the roadside and alerted security agencies.

Initial reports had suggested that the deceased was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic after an identity card bearing her name was recovered at the scene.

The identification card indicated that Sarah Idoko was enrolled in the Higher National Diploma programme of the Department of Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 academic session.

However, police authorities later clarified that Sarah Idoko was a student of the Federal University Lokoja.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, said investigators had commenced efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

“The command is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and track down those responsible,” Kankarofi said.

The police commissioner assured residents that the outcome of the investigation would be made public when appropriate and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to securing justice.

The tragic discovery has sparked concern among students and residents, particularly along the Felele corridor, a busy gateway into Lokoja that has witnessed several security-related incidents in recent years.

Reacting to the development, the Association of Nigerian Female Students, Kogi State Chapter, condemned the killing and described it as cruel, unfortunate and unacceptable.

In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Celina James, the association expressed deep sorrow over the death and urged security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.

The group called for the swift arrest and prosecution of anyone connected to the incident.

The association also urged relevant authorities to strengthen security measures around tertiary institutions and student communities to prevent similar occurrences.

“The tragic death of Sarah Ojodomo has once again raised concerns about the safety and security of students and residents along the Felele corridor, a major gateway to Lokoja that has witnessed several security-related incidents in recent years,” the statement said.
