Germany’s Kai Havertz, United States forward Folarin Balogun, and Sweden midfielder Yasin Ayari have emerged as early leaders in the adidas Golden Boot race at the FIFA World Cup 2026 after each scored twice in their opening group-stage matches.

The trio set the pace for the Golden Boot race 2026 following a series of high-scoring performances across multiple venues in the opening round of fixtures.

Balogun struck twice in the first half for the United States in their 4-1 win over Paraguay in Los Angeles, becoming the first American player since 1930 to score multiple goals in a World Cup match.

Kai Havertz matched the feat later the same day, scoring a brace in Germany’s 7-1 victory over Curaçao in Houston, where the four-time champions delivered a dominant attacking display.

Yasin Ayari then joined the group of early leaders with two goals in Sweden’s 5-1 win over Tunisia, keeping the Scandinavian side firmly in contention as the tournament progresses.

With several teams yet to play their opening matches, the early standings remain fluid, but the opening round has already produced a competitive scoring chart across multiple continents.

The adidas Golden Boot is awarded to the top scorer at the end of the tournament, with assists and minutes played used as tie-breakers if players finish level on goals.
