Saudi boxing chief wants the blockbuster heavyweight clash at Wembley but says a late-night start is essential to maximise global television audiences

Saudi Arabian sports executive Turki Alalshikh has said the long-awaited Fury Joshua Wembley fight could still take place at Wembley Stadium, but only if British authorities approve an unusually late start to accommodate television audiences around the world, particularly in the United States.

Speaking about plans for the all-British heavyweight showdown, Alalshikh said he intends to meet with Sadiq Khan and other stakeholders to discuss staging the contest in London, with the bout potentially beginning as late as 4am GMT to align with prime-time viewing in North America.

“I tell you from the beginning, it depends if England give us all that we need. We want the fight here in England, but we want the time zone of all the world, especially in America,” Alalshikh said.

“If they allowed us to have Wembley late in the night, we want to do it in England. It is about the time and viewership. We will talk with the mayors and Prince Abdullah (bin Khaled bin Sultan).”

The proposal reflects the growing commercial importance of global broadcast audiences in elite boxing, where television rights and pay-per-view revenues often influence scheduling decisions as much as the venue itself.

Responding to the proposal, a spokesperson for the Mayor of London welcomed efforts to bring another major boxing event to the capital but stopped short of confirming whether City Hall would support a contest beginning in the early hours of the morning.

“London is the sporting capital of the world, and the Mayor is working to bring more of the world’s biggest events to the city.

London has staged some of the biggest boxing events in recent history at Wembley Stadium, with record crowds of over 90,000 attending heavyweight contests, including Anthony Joshua versus Daniel Dubois and Tyson Fury versus Dillian Whyte,” the spokesperson said.

No decision has yet been announced on whether the requested scheduling would receive approval, with discussions expected to involve local authorities, stadium operators and security agencies.

The proposed Fury Joshua Wembley fight would finally bring together two of Britain’s most successful heavyweight boxers after years of speculation and unsuccessful negotiations.

Tyson Fury, the former WBC heavyweight champion, and Anthony Joshua, a two-time unified world heavyweight champion, have repeatedly been linked with a blockbuster domestic showdown, but previous talks failed to produce an agreement despite strong public demand.

Before any meeting can take place, both fighters are scheduled to return to the ring later this month.

Fury is due to face Mariusz Wach in Pattaya, Thailand, on July 24, while Joshua is scheduled to box Kristian Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 25.

Those contests are widely expected to serve as final preparations for a proposed showdown, with November emerging as the most likely window for what could become one of the biggest events in British boxing history.

Wembley Stadium has established itself as one of the world’s premier venues for heavyweight boxing, hosting record-breaking crowds for recent title fights involving both Fury and Joshua.

Previous events have attracted attendances exceeding 90,000 spectators, reinforcing London’s reputation as a major destination for global sporting spectacles.
