The electoral commission also recorded 52,907 voter transfers and 19,565 requests for corrections during the year-long registration exercise

A total of 131,165 new voters have been registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Edo State following the conclusion of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise conducted between August 2025 and July 2026.

The exercise also recorded 52,907 requests from voters seeking to transfer their registration to different polling units, while 19,565 applications were submitted for changes or corrections involving names, dates of birth, gender, addresses and professions.

The figures were contained in a report issued by INEC’s spokesperson in Edo State, Toyon Buoro, providing an overview of the registration exercise across the state.

INEC said Ovia North East Local Government Area recorded 11,613 new voters, while Oredo Local Government Area registered 9,544 new voters during the exercise.

Owan West recorded the lowest number of new registrations among the local government areas, with 3,393 voters added to the register.

The INEC State Office recorded the highest number of registrations at 11,747, according to the report.

The commission stated, “A total number of 131,165 new voters were registered in Edo State in the just concluded Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which took place between August 2025 and July 2026.”

The latest figures highlight significant voter interest in participating in the electoral process, while the large number of transfer requests also points to continued efforts by registered voters to align their polling locations with their current places of residence.

INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration programme allows eligible Nigerians to register as voters and enables existing voters to update relevant details, including transferring their registration when they relocate.

The exercise is an important part of maintaining an accurate and credible voters’ register, particularly as the commission continues preparations for future elections and seeks to ensure that eligible citizens can participate effectively in the democratic process.
