The veteran actress describes Akindele as strict but deeply generous, recalling the filmmaker’s private financial support during her illness
Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke has praised filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele for her generosity and private acts of kindness, describing the award-winning entertainer as strict but deeply compassionate.
Oshodi-Oke spoke about her relationship with Akindele during an interview with African A-List, where she offered a personal account of the filmmaker’s character away from the public spotlight.
According to the veteran actress, Akindele’s firm personality is well known among those who work with her, but that quality does not diminish her willingness to support people in need.
“Funke Akindele is a good woman. She’s very strict oo, even Funke herself says it that she knows she’s strict, but if you know her well, you will know that despite her strictness, she is very, very kind,” Oshodi-Oke said.
She explained that Akindele extends her generosity beyond the entertainment industry, including supporting people she encounters through social media.
Oshodi-Oke also shared a personal experience that gave her an especially close understanding of Akindele’s generosity.
The actress revealed that Akindele provided substantial financial assistance while she was dealing with an illness, although she declined to disclose the amount because of the public nature of the Internet.
“I’d have loved to mention the whopping amount of money she gave me while I was sick, but we’re on the Internet, I wouldn’t,” she said.
Oshodi-Oke further portrayed Akindele as someone who prefers to help quietly rather than turn her charitable gestures into public announcements.
“She’s that person that gives and doesn’t go around talking about it. She gives and move on. She is a generously good and blessed person,” she added.
Her comments offer a more personal perspective on Akindele, whose public image has often been shaped by her demanding approach to work and the high standards associated with her film and television productions.
For Oshodi-Oke, however, strictness and kindness are not contradictory qualities. She suggested that those who know Akindele beyond her professional reputation are more likely to see the generosity behind her firm exterior.
The revelation also highlights the less visible forms of support that exist within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where established personalities sometimes assist colleagues and members of the wider public away from the cameras.
Oshodi-Oke’s account presents Akindele’s support as a quiet and meaningful gesture rather than a publicity exercise, adding a warm human dimension to their relationship.
The actress’s praise comes after she recently spoke publicly about other aspects of her personal life and career, including her political involvement and experiences with illness, drawing renewed attention from fans and the wider entertainment community.
