Musiala’s return followed a difficult period away from competitive action. The Germany international had recently revealed that he was dealing with a neurological condition after collapsing during two pre-season matches, making his return to the starting XI a welcome moment for Bayern and their supporters.

Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage in the 61st minute, rising to meet a free-kick from Olise and heading beyond the Bodø/Glimt goalkeeper.

The England captain’s goal also extended his Champions League scoring run to eight consecutive matches, placing him among an elite group of players to have achieved such a sequence in the competition.

Bayern then found another gear.

Davies produced a powerful long-range finish in the 77th minute before Olise added two more goals in the final stages. The France international’s first arrived six minutes after Davies’ strike, while his second came in stoppage time to complete a superb individual performance.

Olise’s contribution was particularly influential. His two goals, combined with his involvement in Kane’s strike, helped Bayern turn sustained pressure into a commanding result and ensured the evening ended with considerable attacking flourish.

Bodø/Glimt’s resistance finally collapsed completely when defender Odin Bjørtuft was shown a straight red card in the 87th minute for a last-man foul. The dismissal came shortly before Olise’s second goal.

The defeat should nevertheless be viewed against the backdrop of Bodø/Glimt’s remarkable rise.

The victory also strengthened Bayern’s formidable home record in Europe’s premier club competition.

For Musiala, though, the scoreline was almost secondary to the feeling of returning to the starting XI and immediately contributing.

His goal gave Bayern the breakthrough they needed, while the emphatic finish offered Kompany an encouraging response after the stalemate at Schalke.

Bayern’s next Champions League assignment comes on October 13, when Kompany’s side travel to face Viking in Norway.

Arsenal will then visit Munich on October 21 in a considerably tougher test of Bayern’s early European ambitions.
