Marcus Rashford, 28, spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he contributed 14 goals and 11 assists in 49 games as the Spanish club won La Liga. Barcelona did not buy him.

He has taken the number nine shirt again at United and started against Everton, completing three of five dribbles and winning six of nine duels.

“I’m really pleased with Marcus Rashford in many ways,” Michael Carrick said, remarks shared by journalist Fabrizio Romano. “It’s pretty obvious with his performances. Again, he was a real threat again on Sunday. He’s doing a lot of things really well and settled back in really quickly.”

He added elsewhere that he was pleased to have Marcus Rashford available and that United have options to keep players fresh. The comments come before United host Manchester City.

The return was not the first plan of the summer. Other clubs looked. Michael Carrick kept him in the group and has started him.
