Lagos Assembly candidate pledges people-centred leadership and prioritises youth empowerment, education, healthcare and security ahead of the 2027 election

Oluwagbenga Abiola, the All Progressives Congress candidate for Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly election, has pledged to deliver responsive and people-centred representation if elected in the 2027 general election, following his victory in the party’s primary.

Speaking after emerging as the APC flag bearer, Abiola thanked party leaders, delegates, supporters and residents for the confidence reposed in him, describing the outcome of the primary as a mandate to serve with humility, integrity and accountability.

According to a statement made available to Saturday PUNCH, the lawmaker-in-waiting said his campaign would be driven by the needs of constituents, with a focus on legislation aimed at improving the welfare and opportunities available to residents.

Abiola said his legislative agenda would prioritise youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare, economic development, security and social welfare if elected to represent the constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Abiola Agege representation agenda, he explained, is intended to strengthen engagement between elected officials and the people while ensuring that public service remains focused on community development.

Calling for unity after the conclusion of the primary election, Abiola urged party members to put the contest behind them and work together ahead of the 2027 polls.

“The primary election is over. Now is the time to unite. There is no victor and no vanquished in our collective pursuit of a better Agege. Together, we will build a stronger APC and secure an even brighter future for our constituency,” he said.

His emergence comes as political parties continue to prepare for the 2027 general election through internal nomination processes designed to select candidates for elective offices across the country.

Primary elections are a crucial stage in Nigeria’s electoral process, allowing political parties to choose candidates who will represent them at the general election.

The APC has consistently maintained a strong political presence in Lagos State, where it has remained the governing party since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

Abiola’s message of reconciliation follows a familiar post-primary approach adopted by many party candidates, who often seek to unite supporters after competitive nomination contests.
