ADC has denies Christian genocide in Nigeria, insisting there is no credible evidence to support allegations that Christians are being deliberately targeted for extermination.

The African Democratic Congress’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this on Tuesday while speaking on Politics Today, a current affairs programme on Channels Television.

His comments followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and his claim that the Nigerian government is allowing the killing of Christians on a large scale.

Trump also revealed that he had instructed the U.S. Defence Department to prepare for possible military action if the situation persisted.

Responding, Abdullahi dismissed the narrative, describing it as misleading and dangerous.

“I cannot say there is evidence of genocide, and from what we have seen we cannot describe what is going on as genocide,” he said.

He acknowledged that Nigeria faces serious security challenges but argued that the violence should not be framed through a religious lens.

“The question is not about how the Americans are framing it. The issue is that people are being killed in Nigeria, and we have the opportunity to let the Americans know that there’s no genocide going on,” he added.

The ADC spokesman urged the international community to engage with Nigeria constructively rather than inflaming tensions with misguided accusations.

He further appealed for diplomatic dialogue and cooperation in addressing the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, and weak local governance.

Political observers note that Abdullahi’s comments align with the federal government’s recent rebuttals of Trump’s claims, which officials have described as “baseless and provocative.”

The ADC maintained that national unity and mutual understanding remain vital in overcoming the country’s security challenges, warning against any external narrative that could deepen sectarian divides.
