ADC PVC warning alerts Lagos residents against sharing Permanent Voter Cards with political groups to safeguard privacy and democratic integrity

The Lagos State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned residents against submitting images or details of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to political groups or unauthorised individuals, describing the practice as a threat to voter privacy and democratic integrity.

The warning, issued on Thursday by the party’s Directorate of Communication and signed by Mr Oluwasegun Adekayero, follows reports of a circulating message encouraging residents, particularly in Lagos Mainland, to send photographs of their PVCs via WhatsApp for political mobilisation.

According to Mr Adekayero, PVCs are personal and confidential documents issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and must be protected at all times.

He said informal collection of PVC images raises serious concerns about data privacy, voter protection and potential misuse of citizens’ information.

“ADC considers it necessary, in the interest of public safety and democratic integrity, to caution Lagosians against sharing sensitive personal information with partisan groups,” he said.

The party emphasised that lawful political participation should be transparent and respectful of citizens’ rights, fostering confidence and trust rather than fear or coercion.

Mr Adekayero urged residents to safeguard their PVCs, avoid sharing them through unsecured digital platforms, and report any suspicious requests for voter information to appropriate authorities.

He reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to issue-based politics, civic education and credible democratic processes, stating that democracy thrives when citizens are informed, protected and respected.
