Akande Atiku Tinubu political criticism as Laolu Akande says both leaders share same mindset on power, sparking fresh debate on Nigeria’s politics

Former media aide to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu belong to the same political school of thought, saying both leaders view political power as a tool for personal advantage.

The Akande Atiku Tinubu political criticism was made during an appearance on Channels Television’s programme Inside Sources, where he also responded to Atiku’s recent allegations that Tinubu was steering Nigeria towards a one-party state.

Akande argued that Atiku’s political trajectory had contributed to internal tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, particularly over the party’s rotational presidency arrangement.

He said Atiku and Tinubu, despite being political rivals, operate within a similar framework where political power is prioritised over public transformation.

According to Laolu Akande, both figures differ in tactics but not in political orientation, stressing that their approach to governance reflects a broader pattern among Nigeria’s political elite.

The Akande Atiku Tinubu political criticism also extended to concerns about democratic institutions, as he questioned the neutrality and effectiveness of electoral administration in the country.

He urged Nigerians to focus less on partisan narratives and more on structural issues affecting governance, accountability and democratic development.

Akande further emphasised that the future of Nigeria depends on moving beyond elite political rivalry and addressing deeper systemic challenges affecting citizens.
