Akor Adams Sevilla comeback sealed a 2–2 draw at Elche as the Nigerian striker scored twice to halt Sevilla’s losing streak

Sevilla striker Akor Adams delivered an inspiring return from the Africa Cup of Nations by scoring twice off the bench to secure a 2–2 draw against Elche in a La Liga clash.

The Nigerian international ended Sevilla’s four game losing streak across all competitions with a powerful second half performance.

Elche took the lead inside 15 minutes when Martim Neto released Aleix Febas on the edge of the area.

The midfielder fired past Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos, who was slightly out of position.

The hosts doubled their advantage 10 minutes after the restart through Germán Valera, leaving Sevilla facing another damaging defeat.

Adams entered the match at the start of the second half following his AFCON campaign with Nigeria.

He quickly reduced the deficit with Sevilla’s first competitive goal in five matches, shifting the momentum of the contest.

In stoppage time, the striker completed his brace from the penalty spot after referee Ricardo de Burgos penalised a handball in the Elche box. The composed finish levelled the score and sealed a crucial point.

Adams’ Nigeria teammate, Chidera Ejuke, also returned to action, coming on in the 65th minute to help Sevilla stabilise and avoid defeat.

The run of losses had begun on December 17, two days after both players departed Spain for AFCON duty.

The 25 year old Adams featured in all seven of Nigeria’s matches at the tournament in Morocco.

He finished with two goals and two assists as the Super Eagles claimed the bronze medal.

Sevilla coach Matías Almeyda had earlier confirmed that Adams and Ejuke were available for selection after arriving back in Spain on Sunday.
