Akwa Ibom power market takeover plan unveiled by Governor Eno as he outlines reforms to improve electricity supply and energy infrastructure

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, in Uyo, announced bold plans to reposition the state’s electricity sector, declaring that his administration is working towards taking greater control of the state’s power market amid persistent epileptic electricity supply across Nigeria.

Umo Eno made the disclosure during the March Projects Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Uyo, where he reviewed ongoing infrastructural reforms aimed at improving public utilities and service delivery.

The governor attributed the poor electricity situation affecting Akwa Ibom State and the wider country to low national power generation, stressing that structural reforms are necessary to achieve sustainable improvement in energy supply.

In a decisive statement, the Akwa Ibom power market takeover plan includes ongoing engagements with key stakeholders in the energy sector, as the state seeks to develop frameworks that will enhance local control and efficiency in electricity distribution.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Aniekan Umanah, the governor has also set up an inter-ministerial committee tasked with driving the completion and commissioning of Youth Friendly Centres across the state, as part of broader social development initiatives.

The administration further emphasised inter-agency collaboration as a critical component for effective project execution, particularly in sectors tied to infrastructure and public welfare.

Governor Eno’s remarks come amid growing public concern over inconsistent electricity supply, with residents calling for more urgent and practical interventions to stabilise power distribution in the state.
