Anambra State Police have arrested two young men over the brutal Anambra woman murder of a 33-year-old, whose body was dumped in a culvert in Oraifite after she was lured and attacked

The Anambra State Police Command led by Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu, spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, and suspects Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe confronted the grim outcome of a calculated crime in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, on March 13, 2026, when the two men allegedly murdered a 33-year-old woman and dumped her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop.

Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, aged 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, aged 20, were arrested on June 6, 2026, by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka following intelligence gathering and digital forensic analysis.

The principal suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation to planning the attack after a disagreement involving the victim’s husband.

The victim’s mother had reported her missing on March 13, and her body was discovered the following day. The father later identified her. According to police, Ikwugwara lured the woman to his residence under the pretext of needing help due to an alleged illness.

Both suspects then allegedly attacked her with a machete, leading to her death. They disposed of the body in the early hours of March 14.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that both suspects have admitted their roles in the crime.

They are expected to be charged to court once investigations are completed. Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu praised the detectives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to delivering justice and tackling violent crime across the state.

This tragic case adds to concerns over rising incidents of gender-based violence and targeted killings in parts of Anambra State, where community safety remains a priority for residents and authorities alike.
