Arsenal Champions League win at Inter Milan secures a top-two finish, extends a perfect run and guarantees last-16 qualification

Arsenal Football Club secured a top-two finish in the UEFA Champions League after a commanding 3–1 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night.

The result extended Arsenal’s flawless European campaign to seven wins from seven and confirmed qualification for the last 16 with home advantage in the second-leg knockout tie.

The Premier League side made a blistering start and took the lead after 10 minutes when Gabriel Jesus capitalised on close-range confusion to score with a sharp poacher’s finish.

Inter responded eight minutes later through Petar Sučić, who struck a powerful effort into the top corner to restore parity and lift the home crowd.

Arsenal regained control before the interval as Jesus completed his brace from a corner routine that underlined the side’s dominance from set pieces this season.

Bukayo Saka delivered the corner, Leandro Trossard headed the ball back across goal, and after it glanced off the crossbar, Jesus nodded home from close range.

The match remained intense and open, with both teams creating chances.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya produced a decisive double save just before half-time, denying Federico Dimarco twice in quick succession with sharp reflexes.

Arsenal continued to press after the restart, while Inter threatened sporadically.

Substitute Pio Esposito saw one effort drift narrowly wide before heading over from a corner as the hosts searched for an equaliser.

The decisive moment arrived four minutes from time when Arsenal sealed a famous win on the counter-attack.

Following an Inter corner, Gabriel Martinelli released Viktor Gyökeres with a precise long ball into space.

The forward held off his marker before unleashing a stunning strike from 25 yards into the top corner.

The goal completed Arsenal’s longest-ever winning streak in Europe’s premier club competition and marked their first Champions League victory in Italy since March 2008.

The Arsenal Champions League win guarantees the club will finish no lower than second in the league phase and keeps the side on course to make history ahead of the final fixture against Kairat Almaty.
