Arsenal target Pedro Neto as Chelsea consider £70m offers for the Portugal winger after Arsenal missed out on Vinícius Júnior

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Pedro Neto have emerged at the centre of a reported £70 million transfer development in London on Monday, August 10, 2026, with Arsenal understood to have informed Neto’s representatives of their interest in signing the Portugal international.

The approach, reported by OneFootball and carried by Daily Post, comes as Arsenal continue to search for another attacking option on the left side of Arteta’s team.

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for Neto, although the Stamford Bridge club is understood to expect a substantial fee before considering his departure.

Chelsea’s reported valuation of about £70m would make any move a significant late-window investment for Arsenal.

There is no indication from the available reports that the clubs have reached an agreement, meaning the situation remains at the interest and exploratory stage.

For Arsenal, the pursuit reflects a change of direction after their ambitious attempt to sign Vinícius Júnior from Real Madrid failed to produce a move.

Arsenal had explored a deal for the Brazil forward in July, when his contract situation at Real Madrid appeared to offer a potential opening. The Gunners’ interest was genuine, although there was no club-to-club agreement at that stage.

That avenue subsequently closed. Real Madrid secured Vinícius Júnior on a new contract running until June 2032, ending the immediate uncertainty surrounding his future and removing one of the most attractive options from Arsenal’s market.

The development has left Arteta looking at alternative ways to add quality and depth to an Arsenal attack preparing to defend the Premier League title.

Arteta has signalled that Arsenal remain open to further business if the right opportunity emerges. After Arsenal’s latest pre-season preparations, the manager said: “If we have the right player in the market to make us much better, we are very looking forward to that.”

Neto would offer a different profile from Vinícius but would still give Arsenal a proven Premier League winger capable of operating from the flank and contributing directly in the final third.

The 26-year-old Portugal international joined Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2024 on a seven-year contract. Chelsea described him at the time as a player who had established himself as a regular in the Portugal set-up after an impressive spell at Wolves.

His time at Wolves was productive. Neto made 135 appearances for the club and contributed to 11 goals in 20 Premier League appearances during the 2023/24 campaign before making the move to Stamford Bridge.

Neto has also produced memorable moments for Chelsea. The club named his emphatic finish against West Ham United as its Goal of the Month for August in 2025, with the Portugal international receiving 32 per cent of the vote.

When he joined Chelsea, Neto spoke positively about the opportunity, saying: “I feel really grateful to have joined this club.”

He added that he had “worked really hard” to reach that point and was looking forward to playing in the Chelsea shirt.

That relationship could now face an unexpected test if Chelsea decide that a sizeable offer represents good business.

Chelsea have already shown a willingness to reshape their squad aggressively during the current transfer window. Their reported £70m valuation of Neto also comes against a market in which Premier League clubs have continued to command significant fees for established players.

For Arsenal, the attraction is understandable. The club are entering the new campaign as Premier League champions after ending a 22-year wait for the title, while their narrow Champions League final defeat has heightened expectations around Arteta’s next phase of squad building.

Arsenal have already strengthened their midfield with the arrival of Bruno Guimarães and have added further attacking depth, but Arteta has continued to look for ways to raise the level of competition within his squad.

A move for Neto would also carry an intriguing Premier League dimension. Arsenal have increasingly turned to players with experience of English football, reducing some of the adaptation risk associated with signing from overseas.

The reported interest therefore represents more than a reaction to missing out on Vinícius. It is also a reflection of Arsenal’s increasingly demanding position at the top of English football, where established players who can improve the starting XI are becoming harder and more expensive to find.
