Asisat Oshoala wins Player of the Month in the Saudi Women’s Premier League following a stunning debut month with Al Hilal that saw her tally three goals and two assists.

The Nigerian striker, 30, edged out strong competition in a public vote conducted by the league body on X (formerly Twitter), claiming 55 per cent of the 37,560 votes cast.

Moroccan forward Ibtissam Jraïdi of Al Ahli came second with 44 per cent, while Al Nassr’s Clara Luvanga managed just 1 per cent.

Confirming the award on Wednesday, the league said: “In her first month in our league: 3 goals, 2 goal assists. Asisat Oshoala of Al Hilal wins the award for the best player of the month.”

Oshoala featured in all three of Al Hilal’s matches in September, playing every minute as the Riyadh club secured a perfect start to the season — three wins, no goals conceded.

Her performances have drawn widespread praise, not just for her finishing but also her creative influence in the final third.

She has quickly become a key figure in a side aiming to disrupt the domestic dominance of champions Al Nassr.

While Jraïdi matched Oshoala’s output of three goals and two assists, her Al Ahli side suffered one defeat, weakening her case.

Luvanga, meanwhile, leads the scoring charts with four goals and one assist for Al Nassr but was overlooked by fans in the vote.

The announcement comes ahead of this weekend’s highly anticipated clash between Al Ahli and Al Nassr — a match expected to have significant implications for the title race.

Oshoala’s move to Saudi Arabia in September has been hailed as a watershed moment for Nigerian women’s football.

Signing a two-year deal from Bay FC in the US, she joined a growing list of Nigerian internationals plying their trade in the kingdom.

Her legacy is already well established: five Liga F titles, two Champions League crowns, and over 100 goals in six seasons at Barcelona, making her Africa’s most decorated female footballer.

She previously played for Arsenal and Liverpool in England, Dalian Quanjian in China, and now leads Al Hilal’s challenge in a league that’s rapidly expanding.
