Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to Arsenal’s confirmation as champions of the 2025/2026 English Premier League season, drawing a parallel between the club’s success and his vision for Nigeria’s economic development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku Abubakar made the remarks in a statement issued through his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, shortly after Arsenal were officially crowned champions following Manchester City’s draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Comparison by Atiku regards Arsenal victory Nigeria economy comment highlighted what he described as the importance of patience, long-term planning, and structured development in achieving sustained success.

He noted that Arsenal’s rise was built on a clear football philosophy, investment in young talent, and consistency, adding that similar principles should guide Nigeria’s economic reforms and national development strategy.

According to him, Nigeria must prioritise investment in its people, strengthen institutions, and remain committed to coherent and sustainable policy direction capable of driving inclusive growth.

Atiku Abubakar further stated that his economic vision is centred on enterprise development, institutional reforms, and empowering young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to national progress.

He also encouraged Arsenal to complete their season strongly by targeting victory in the UEFA Champions League, describing their campaign as an example of disciplined long-term planning.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu surprised his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, with flowers before sharing a kiss with her at the opening ceremony of the 26th Annual National Women’s Conference in Lagos on Tuesday.

The event was organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) under the theme, “Anchored in Purpose: Be the Blueprint.”

Sanwo-Olu presented the flowers to his wife during his speech at the conference, which brings together women and leaders for discussions and activities focused on women’s empowerment and leadership.

“On behalf of COWLSO and everything that is decent, we want to appreciate you, we want to honour you,” the governor said.

The couple subsequently shared a kiss as Nigerian singer 2Baba’s song, “African Queen”, played at the event.

The conference aims to inspire women, empower leaders and promote a purposeful future through discussions and activities centred on women’s development.
