Barcelona Livaković deal is complete at €2m plus €2m add-ons, with the Croatia goalkeeper set to strengthen the club’s goalkeeping options

FC Barcelona have completed the paperwork for the signing of 31-year-old Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković from Fenerbahçe, with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that the agreement is now confirmed at an initial €2 million plus up to €2 million in add-ons.

The Barcelona Livaković deal had been progressing since last week, when reports from SPORT and other Spanish outlets indicated that Barcelona and Fenerbahçe had reached an agreement for the experienced goalkeeper. The latest development means the clubs have now signed the necessary documents.

Romano confirmed the completion of the deal on Tuesday, writing that Barcelona had “just signed all the documents” for Livaković, with Fenerbahçe receiving €2 million up front and a further €2 million potentially available through performance-related additions.

The move is part of Barcelona’s longer-term planning for the goalkeeping department.

Livaković was initially expected to spend the 2026/27 campaign away from the club on loan before becoming the back-up goalkeeper from June 2027, when Wojciech Szczęsny’s contract is expected to expire.

That plan, however, has become less certain. Fresh reporting from Spain on Tuesday indicates that Barcelona may now integrate Livaković immediately, potentially making him the deputy to Joan García rather than sending him out on loan.

The change would represent a significant adjustment to Barcelona’s original succession plan.

Joan García has been identified as the club’s leading goalkeeper, while Szczęsny has been operating as his experienced alternative.

Livaković’s arrival gives head coach Hansi Flick another established option with extensive international and European experience.

Livaković has spent the bulk of his senior career with Dinamo Zagreb and Fenerbahçe and has also had loan spells involving Girona and Dinamo Zagreb.

He has been Croatia’s first-choice goalkeeper for several years and played a prominent role in the country’s run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals.

His international pedigree is one of the principal attractions of the agreement. Livaković has accumulated 79 appearances for Croatia, according to B92, giving Barcelona a goalkeeper accustomed to high-pressure matches at both club and international level.

The relatively modest guaranteed fee also makes the agreement an intriguing piece of Barcelona’s transfer planning.

Fenerbahçe are due €2 million initially, while the final value could rise to €4 million if the agreed add-ons are achieved.

The timing is significant for Barcelona. Szczęsny arrived in 2024 after Marc-André ter Stegen suffered a serious injury and subsequently extended his stay with the Catalan club.

His current contract is due to run until June 2027, making succession planning increasingly important.

Livaković therefore offers Barcelona a proven and experienced solution while allowing the club to plan its squad several months ahead.

If the immediate integration reports are confirmed, his presence could also provide valuable competition for García during the coming season.

For Fenerbahçe, the agreement brings an end to Livaković’s spell in Turkey after his move from Dinamo Zagreb in 2023.

The Turkish club will receive a guaranteed fee and could benefit from further payments depending on the structure of the add-ons.

Barcelona’s decision to complete the transfer now also reflects the club’s desire to secure experienced players before future squad needs become urgent.
