BAT Nigeria export growth earns recognition at MAN AGM after generating over $300m in exports and supporting jobs nationwide

British American Tobacco Nigeria was on Thursday praised for its robust export performance after the company disclosed at the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria in Lagos that it generated more than 300 million dollars in export sales between 2022 and 2024.

The recognition came as the company received the Diamond Sponsor Appreciation Award for its role in strengthening local manufacturing and promoting Nigerian-made products.

The three-day AGM, themed Nigeria First: Prioritising Patronage of Made in Nigeria, brought together industry leaders, senior government officials and business executives, including keynote speaker and industrialist Aliko Dangote.

The award was received on behalf of the company by the Chairman of the MAN Export Promotion Group, Odiri Erewa-Meggison.

Erewa-Meggison said the honour reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to deepening Nigeria’s manufacturing base.

She noted that BAT Nigeria had continued to prioritise local content and export expansion, adding that sustainable wealth creation required strong, competitive and proudly Nigerian enterprises.

BAT Nigeria currently exports its products to 13 West and Central African countries as well as the United States, a footprint that underscores its growing importance in expanding Nigeria’s non-oil export capacity and boosting foreign exchange inflows.

The company’s Ibadan factory remains one of West Africa’s largest manufacturing hubs and a key contributor to the country’s industrialisation drive.

The company also supports an estimated 350,000 direct and indirect jobs across its value chain, from suppliers to logistics and distribution partners, reinforcing its role in national economic development.

The Director-General of MAN, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, said the company’s performance demonstrated how multinational firms could meaningfully strengthen domestic industry and advance the Made in Nigeria agenda, particularly as the nation seeks deeper industrialisation and integration into the African Continental Free Trade Area.
