Bill Clinton Epstein testimony scheduled Friday as Congressional panel examines former president’s links to the late financier

Former US President Bill Clinton is set to be questioned by a Republican-led Congressional panel on Friday regarding his documented associations with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following the recent release of Justice Department files.

The session comes a day after Clinton’s wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, testified before the House Oversight Committee, calling for former President Donald Trump — who also had ties to Epstein — to testify under oath about his own links to the disgraced financier.

“If this committee is serious about learning the truth about Epstein’s trafficking crimes… it would ask [Trump] directly under oath about the tens of thousands of times he shows up in the Epstein files,” Hillary Clinton said in her opening statement.

The depositions are taking place behind closed doors in Chappaqua, New York, despite the Clintons’ calls for open, televised proceedings. Bill Clinton criticised the secrecy, describing it as akin to a “kangaroo court.”

Bill Clinton has acknowledged interactions with Epstein but maintains he never visited the financier’s private Caribbean island. Previously unseen photographs from the Justice Department files show Clinton in a hot tub and swimming alongside a woman who appears to be Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Clinton has admitted flying on Epstein’s private plane several times in the early 2000s for Clinton Foundation humanitarian trips.

The panel is investigating individuals linked to Epstein following the disclosure of millions of previously unreleased documents. While Clinton appears prominently in the files, neither he nor Hillary has been accused of any crimes.

Attorney David Markus, representing Maxwell, recently stated that both Clinton and Trump are “innocent of any wrongdoing.”

The appearance has drawn significant media attention, with dozens of journalists stationed in Chappaqua and Secret Service installing metal barricades around the local arts centre hosting the proceedings.

Republican Committee Chair James Comer said Hillary Clinton’s testimony concluded with a reminder that lawmakers have “a lot of questions for her husband tomorrow.”
