Borno State Police recover 912 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition in Maiduguri, continuing intelligence-led efforts to enhance public security

Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have recovered a concealed cache of 912 rounds of B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm) ammunition in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of Maiduguri, the state capital.

ASP Nahum Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the exhibits have been secured and investigations are ongoing to trace the source and intended use of the ammunition.

“The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in its sustained efforts to enhance public safety and security across the state,” Daso said.

According to the statement, on 4 January 2026 at about 1400hrs, the Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division, acting on credible intelligence, led a team of operatives to the area where the hidden ammunition cache was discovered.

Following standard operational procedures, the Department of Explosive Ordnance Disposal was immediately deployed to secure the site.

The area was cordoned off professionally, and all 912 rounds were recovered safely.

“The recovered exhibits have been secured, while investigations are ongoing to apprehend those responsible,” Daso said, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended members of the public for providing timely and useful information.

He further urged residents to continue partnering with the Police by reporting suspicious activities or movements within their communities.

This recovery follows a similar operation by troops of Operation Hadin Kai, who recently seized 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition and live warheads concealed in a drainage in Bulumkutu, Maiduguri.
