Buhari’s burial attracts dignitaries from across Nigeria as the nation unites to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose final rites are underway in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

On Tuesday, political heavyweights, former government officials, and prominent personalities began arriving in large numbers to pay their final respects to the late leader.

A significant security presence blanketed the town, with personnel from the Department of State Services, Nigeria Police, and Nigerian Army stationed across key locations to ensure order and safety.

Crowd control measures and road diversions were swiftly deployed as thousands of mourners trooped into Daura, creating a solemn yet vibrant atmosphere.

Among the early arrivals were former Vice Presidents Yemi Osinbajo and Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers Governor and Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Their presence underscored the national significance of Buhari’s passing.

Also in attendance were several former governors including Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto, and Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno, the latter also a former PDP National Chairman.

Business mogul Aliko Dangote, known for his longstanding relationship with the late president, joined other mourners, including Isa Pantami, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, and Pauline Tallen, former Minister of Women Affairs.

“The turnout of high-ranking personalities is a testament to President Buhari’s impact on national life,” said a local official helping with the funeral arrangements.

“It reflects the respect he commanded across political, ethnic, and religious lines.”

President Bola Tinubu, along with religious and traditional leaders from across the country, is expected in Daura later today to join in the final burial rites.

The former president’s body, flown in from the United Kingdom after his passing on Sunday, will be laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

Buhari’s burial in his ancestral home has triggered waves of emotion among his supporters and political allies. Though reactions to his legacy remain mixed, many agree that his dedication to Nigeria was unwavering.

“Regardless of political affiliations, we honour his service to the nation,” said one mourner in Daura. “He gave his life to this country in the military and as a civilian leader.”

As funeral prayers continue and the final interment draws near, Nigeria reflects on the legacy of a leader who shaped its political direction for decades.
