Born in Vienna, Austria, to Nigerian parents, Chukwuemeka was raised in England and represented the country at U-17 through U-20 levels.

The 22-year-old Borussia Dortmund star’s switch to Austria has been ratified by FIFA, making him eligible to play for the Austrian national team. He could make his debut later this month in friendlies against Ghana on March 27 and South Korea on March 31.

Chukwuemeka’s decision ends speculation about whether he would represent Nigeria, and Austria will be hoping to integrate him quickly into their squad ahead of competitive fixtures.
