Dangote begins an $800m Itori cement expansion project to double production capacity, strengthen exports and support Nigeria’s industrial growth
Dangote Industries Limited has announced an $800 million expansion project for its Itori Cement Plant in Ogun State, a move expected to double the facility’s production capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global cement market.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd on Sunday, 2 August 2026, to expand the plant’s output from six million metric tonnes per annum to 12 million metric tonnes.
The agreement was signed by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, and Lin Zhong, Chairman of Sinoma International Engineering, as both companies outlined plans to enhance domestic supply and increase Nigeria’s cement export capacity.
The expansion is expected to support growing demand within Nigeria while creating opportunities for increased exports to other African markets.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dangote described the project as a significant milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy and its commitment to supporting industrial development in Nigeria.
“This $800m investment represents another bold step in our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and reinforcing our leadership in Africa’s cement industry,” Dangote said.
He added that expanding the Itori facility would improve the company’s ability to serve local and international markets while generating foreign exchange earnings, creating jobs and supporting broader economic growth.
Dangote attributed the decision to expand the plant partly to Nigeria’s increasing focus on concrete-based road construction and the company’s ambition to grow its production capacity under its Vision 2030 plan.
The company aims to produce between 90 million and 100 million metric tonnes of cement annually as part of its wider strategy to strengthen its presence across Africa.
Sinoma International Engineering, which has worked with Dangote Group on several cement manufacturing projects, said the partnership demonstrated continued confidence in Nigeria’s industrial potential.
“We are honoured to deepen our collaboration with Dangote Group through this landmark expansion project,” Sinoma Chairman Lin Zhong said.
He added that the company would deploy advanced engineering technology and international expertise to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
The expansion is expected to transform the Itori facility into a major production and export hub, supplying cement to Nigerian consumers while increasing the country’s role in regional construction and infrastructure development.
The investment comes as Nigeria continues efforts to expand local manufacturing capacity, reduce dependence on imports and attract large-scale private sector investments into key industries.
