Davido pays tribute to Sound Sultan in the newly released visuals for his hit single ’10 Kilo’, honouring the late music legend’s impact on Afrobeats and his celebration of plus-size beauty.

Directed by Director Pink, the music video prominently features a banner with Sound Sultan’s image, while plus-size models dance joyfully in front of it — a clear nod to Sound Sultan’s classic hit ‘Orobo’, which also praised fuller-figured women.

’10 Kilo’ not only shares lyrical themes with ‘Orobo’, but also channels the same empowering energy.

Sound Sultan’s ‘Orobo’, especially the 2013 remix with Flavour, was a massive success across Nigeria and West Africa, earning him praise as a pioneer in promoting body positivity through music.

Davido’s visual homage comes over three years after Sound Sultan passed away from cancer in July 2021.

Since his death, music heavyweights like 2Baba, Burna Boy, Spyro, and Sean Tizzle have also celebrated his legacy in various ways.

Widely respected as one of the foundational forces behind modern Afrobeats, Sound Sultan’s classics such as ‘Natural Something’, ‘Jagbajantis’, and ‘Very Good Bad Guy’ remain influential across generations.
