Davido Explains Why He Chose Akwa Ibom for His Concert

Davido says he chose Akwa Ibom for his first Nigerian concert in 14 years due to its top-notch facilities, peace, and youth-friendly leadership.

Popular Afrobeats star and record producer, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has revealed that he chose Akwa Ibom State as the first Nigerian venue for his concert because of the state’s world-class facilities and peaceful environment.

Speaking at a pre-concert reception in Uyo on Sunday, hosted by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Davido said the state stood out during his Africa-wide tour planning process.

According to him, Akwa Ibom topped the list of potential concert locations across the continent because of its state-of-the-art infrastructure, especially its stadium facilities.

“When we were looking around Africa, five places came up, and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list. A lot of people are flying in from other states that don’t have this kind of facility,” Davido said.

The singer, who has been performing internationally for over 14 years, described everything about Akwa Ibom as “beautiful”, adding that if all states were as well-developed and secure, he would gladly tour across Nigeria.

“You have a standard facility, that’s why we are starting here. As time goes on, we’ll do other states. The stadium is already filled up, so let’s get ready and shut it down,” he added.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded Davido for choosing Akwa Ibom and praised Governor Eno’s commitment to youth and sports development.

He urged the artist to mentor young Akwa Ibom talents and feature them in his upcoming international tours.

Governor Umo Eno, on his part, thanked Davido for being “an inspiration to the younger generation,” acknowledging his hard work and resilience as a model for aspiring entertainers.

“We are a youth-friendly state and are working to develop talents. Thank you for sharing the stage with our local entertainers — it’s an inspiration to them that one day, they can also reach your level,” the governor said.
