Defence Minister Christopher Musa says security agencies will do everything possible to free kidnap victims and improve national security

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has assured citizens that the Federal Government and security agencies will do everything within their power to secure the release of persons abducted by kidnappers across the country.

Musa gave the assurance on Saturday after receiving the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander award during the 2026 Southern Kaduna Festival.

Addressing participants at the event, the minister acknowledged that several Nigerians remain in captivity and pledged sustained efforts to secure their freedom.

“As we speak, I know we still have some of our brothers and sisters that have been kidnapped, abducted. Wherever they are, they will know that we are always with them. And we will do whatever it takes to ensure that we free them,” he said.

The Defence Minister stressed that unity among citizens and cooperation with security agencies remain crucial in tackling insecurity and combating criminal activities.

“And we can only do that if we work together in unity. No evil can overcome us because God is on our side,” Musa added.

He urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies, noting that timely information often plays a decisive role in preventing attacks and rescuing victims.

According to him, the Armed Forces and other security agencies remain committed to safeguarding lives, defending the country’s territorial integrity and creating a secure environment for national development.

“Together with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies, we remain committed to protecting our nation, defending its territorial integrity, and creating a secure environment in which citizens can pursue their legitimate aspirations,” he said.

Musa also highlighted ongoing efforts to address security threats in different parts of the country, describing security as a vital foundation for economic growth and social stability.

Speaking on the honour bestowed on him, the minister expressed appreciation to leaders and residents of Southern Kaduna for the recognition.

“Recognition from the community that nurtured you, shaped your values, and contributed to your journey carries a special significance. It speaks not only to achievement, but also to belonging,” he said.

Responding to questions after the ceremony, Musa alleged that criminal groups often receive support from collaborators within communities, making local cooperation essential to security operations.

“We have people that are giving them information, we have people that are their informants, we have people that are giving them logistics for them to come. It’s important that we identify these people and bring them out,” he said.

The minister called on citizens to report suspicious activities promptly, saying intelligence gathering remains one of the most powerful tools in the fight against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

His remarks come amid growing public concern over rising abductions across parts of the country.

The assurance follows a recent appeal by abducted school vice principal Folawe Alamu of Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinle, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, who reportedly urged President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde and other Nigerians to negotiate with her captors for the release of herself and other victims.

The appeal came 15 days after gunmen abducted pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, intensifying concerns about the safety of students, teachers and educational institutions.
