Dele Momodu warns Nigeria risks a one-man dictatorship, calling for political recovery ahead of the 2027 elections

Dele Momodu, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has cautioned that Nigeria risks sliding into a one-man dictatorship, urging political action to restore balance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu stressed the importance of conscientious leadership over personal gain in politics, noting that politicians who prioritise wealth over national interest compromise the country’s future.

“If I wanted to make money in politics, I would be with President Bola Tinubu. I would be at the forefront, but that is not the issue,” he said.

Describing Nigeria as a patient requiring urgent care, Momodu said: We need to save Nigeria from a one-man dictatorship.

Nigeria needs to recover because it’s like taking a patient to the hospital.

The doctors make sure they rescue the patient, make sure you recover, and then they can reset whatever went wrong and then you can begin to talk about developmental projects.

That’s how politics is.
