Edo acid attack: Police launch manhunt for Timothy Gilbert after he reportedly bathed his girlfriend in acid. Victim in critical condition

The Edo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a man accused of a horrific acid attack on his girlfriend. Timothy Gilbert reportedly poured acid on Angela Ogah, 40, at Ihovbe Quarters in Ikpoba Hill before fleeing the scene, police confirmed on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Moses Yamu said the command is determined to apprehend Gilbert and bring him to justice. “The command has commenced a manhunt for the arrest of the suspect, and I am sure he will be brought to justice,” he said.

The attack is believed to have been triggered by disputes between the estranged couple over allegations of infidelity. Yamu advised the public that it is better to part ways than remain in an abusive relationship, noting that “love is not by force.”

Reports indicate that Gilbert fled shortly after committing the crime earlier this month. The victim, Ogah, was admitted to a private hospital and remains in critical condition, struggling to communicate.

Her lawyer, John Izegaegbe, confirmed that a petition had been submitted to the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, demanding urgent action.

“The victim is in severe pain and could barely talk when journalists visited her,” he said. “We want the suspect to be arrested immediately. Gilbert is currently on the run after bathing Ogah with a substance suspected to be acid. Authorities must act without delay.”

The police have urged anyone with information on Gilbert’s whereabouts to come forward, as the investigation intensifies.
