Edo Police arrest three suspects over the abduction and killing of 42-year-old Edafe Oghenekome in Ovia West LGA

Edo State Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with the abduction and killing of 42-year-old Edafe Oghenekome in Igueladidi Forest, Iguobazuwa, Ovia West Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem.

The suspects were identified as Abdulsalam Mohammadu, 21, Kehinde Adetunji, 45, and Nasiru Yau, 24. ASP Ikoedem explained that the apprehension of Abdulsalam Mohammadu led to the subsequent arrests of the other two suspects.

Kehinde Adetunji, a local syndicate pointer, lived in the same community as the deceased, while Nasiru Yau supplied food to the gang in the forest.

The victims, Edafe Oghenekome and Favour Ighasa, were kidnapped from their residence at Utese Village, after Udo Community, Ovia South-West Local Government Area, on February 4, 2026. Ighasa regained her freedom on February 9, but communication regarding the release of Oghenekome ceased.

ASP Ikoedem noted that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping, ransom collection, and murder. Investigations also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, numbered 1686 and 2357, and three Dane guns.

The Edo State Police Command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional members of the syndicate who remain at large. ASP Ikoedem urged residents to stay vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.
